Festival Mass – Mass nr. 2 in G-major by Schubert

Festival Mass – Mass nr. 2 in G-major by Schubert

Kirsten Flagstad Festival continues our traditional collaboration with Hamar Cathedral and celebrates a festival service with extra music. This is an important collaboration for the festival, and we are happy to announce that we this year will hear Mass nr. 2 in G-major by Franz Schubert as part of the service.

Franz Schubert composed this beautiful mass in under a week, on the 2nd-7th March 1815. This is the most famous of the three shorter masses he composed. The mass is written for chorus and three soloists. The choir and the soprano soloist get to shine the brightest, the other parts are somewhat less prominent in the soundscape. The soloist are all opera singers who have studied at the Opera Academy in Oslo and in Copenhagen. They have all performed at the Norwegian Opera house.
